In 2007, a global community of urban sketchers began to form when Seattle-based journalist and illustrator Gabriel Campanario created an online forum “for all sketchers out there who love to draw the cities where they live and visit, from the window of their homes, from a cafe, at a park, standing by a street corner… always on location, not from photos or memory.”

A year later, Campanario invited a group of sketchers to share their drawings and storytelling in a blog, Urban Sketchers, where readers could “See the World, One Drawing at a Time.” The blog helped the community gain visibility and inspired drawing enthusiasts from all over to sketch in the spirit of their manifesto.

Applewood Production Presents: POP UP PLAYS!

Applewood Productions’ Pop-Up Plays is a trio of one-act plays presented as an innovative theater experience in a nontraditional space.

Join us at North Node Sanctuary in the Cedars for showings December 9 – December 23 for an immersive journey into the worlds of our talented writers’ original works, “STAR,” “Exit,” and “Wisdom in Weird Places.”

Tera Powell’s “STAR” Introduces us to 11-year-old- Tera as she navigates some transformational experiences as we journey toward her 13th birthday. At 13, her mother presents her with gifts typically symbolic of maturity and beauty; however, her perspective has shifted toward the intangible value of self.

In “Exit,” writer Hailee Dyer walks us through the story of a young man named Alexander Hall who wakes up in a dream and must navigate through the experiences he is facing. He is challenged by a woman who reminds him of his path as he works tirelessly to publish his first novel, Exit. Will he be successful?

“Wisdom in Weird Places” pulls the audience into an enlightening conversation in an unlikely space. Here, we meet a newly successful entrepreneur on his journey to the top as he comes to understand how he used the Law of attraction to get him there. “Wisdom in Weird Places” is Writer Guru Ma’s funny nod to the universe and how it’s more intelligent than we think.

    Tickets available at: bit.ly/popupplays

**VIP ticket includes early admission, two cocktails and small bites, an exclusive VIP Pop Up Play t-shirt, and an all-access backstage pass featuring a talkback with select cast and crew.
